HORMONES

Exercise is vitally important for living a healthy life! Many of us view
exercise as merely a means to lose weight, however, exercise is extremely
important for our health as well. Have you ever heard the expression “use
it or lose it”? If you don’t use your body, you will surely lose it. Your
muscles will become weak and flabby, your heart and lungs won’t function
efficiently, and joints become stiff and injure easily.

ExerciseRegular exercise can help prevent disease, improve stamina, strengthen and
tone muscles, enhance flexibility, increase energy, increase metabolism,
reduce stress, improve self esteem, control weight, and improve your overall
quality of life.
Unfortunately, with amount of time we spend in front of the television and
computer, our bodies are becoming unhealthier, obesity is increasing, and
overall depression is at an all time high. Even those who know the
importance of exercise can still fall into this category.

Deseret Aesthetic & Lifestyle Institute’s Health and Wellness Program will
give you the tools you need to get out there and move. Your energy and
strength will be restored, and you will feel better!

Why Do We Need Supplements?

SupplementsThis is a common question for many people who believe our food supply is a sufficient source for health- sustaining vitamins and minerals. However, this belief may be a simple oversight because quality food sources are becoming nutritionally exhausted. The use of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and overproduction of foods grown in nutrient depleted soils, have decreased the nutritional content of our food. In addition, the average American diet consists of high-fat, sugary, refined foods that lead to deficiencies that weaken immunity.

The Journal of the American Medical Association reported the current American diet is inadequate to support optimal health:

“Insufficient vitamin intake is apparently a cause of chronic disease. Recent evidence has shown that suboptimal levels of vitamins (below standard), even well above those causing deficiency syndromes, are risk factors for chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and osteoporosis. A large portion of the general population is apparently at increased risk for this reason.”

Deseret Aesthetic & Lifestyle Institute’s Health and Wellness Program offers a wide variety of supplements, many of which are doctor recommended. Combining supplements with hormones, proper diet, and exercise provide all the ingredients for optimal health. Call today for a free consultation!

Nutrition
Over the past century our food supply has not changed but how we prepare it has, and our bodies are paying the price. With enriched flour, trans fat, and high fructose corn syrup in most of our processed food, and super sizing our intake of these empty calories, we are not giving our bodies the nourishment it needs in order to function properly and for us to feel healthy. This problem has been a growing epidemic and our increasing obesity rate is proof.

Processed foods have become our staple due to our busy lives and easy access to them. In order for us to regain energy and health, we must take control of our diet and make healthy choices. We must go back to the basics and eat our food from their most natural state. This includes fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and good fats.

As part of the Health and Wellness Program at Deseret Aesthetic & Lifestyle Institute, we will educate you on correct food choices, provide healthy meal ideas, and motivate you to make healthy eating a lifestyle change. Call today for a free consultation!

What Is (PCOS) and How Can Hormone Optimization Help With Treatment?

  • Do you suffer from irregular periods?
  • Do you have excess facial hair?
  • Have you had fertility challenges?

All of these can be symptoms of a very common condition called P.C.O.S. — Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome — that affects millions of women, many of whom have never been properly diagnosed.

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a condition in which there is an imbalance of a woman’s female sex hormones. This hormone imbalance may cause changes in the menstrual cycle, skin changes, small ovarian cysts, trouble getting pregnant and other problems.

PCOS
Female sex hormones include estrogen and progesterone, as well as hormones called androgens. Androgens, often called “male hormones,” are also present in women, but in different amounts.

Hormones help regulate the normal development of eggs in the ovaries during each menstrual cycle. PCOS is related to an imbalance in these female sex hormones. Too much androgen hormone is made, along with changes in other hormone levels.

Among the hormones that will be assessed during the optimization program are: estrogen, progesterone, FSH, LH, testosterone and others. Other blood tests that may be done include: serum HCG, prolactin levels, fasting glucose, lipid levels and thyroid function.

Through an analysis of all of these metrics, an individualized plan will be developed to bring hormones to optimized and balanced levels.

How Does Hormone Therapy Affect ED and Loss of Sex Drive in Men?

Erectile Dysfunction
Because the symptoms of low testosterone are often subtle and similar to those caused by other medical conditions, low testosterone often goes untreated. Fatigue or low energy, increased irritability or depression, a decrease in sex drive and Erectile Dysfunction are not normal signs of aging, but are often conditions that result when the body is unable to produce sufficient quantities of testosterone.

Testosterone is an important male hormone produced mainly in the testicles. While testosterone helps the body develop male characteristics during puberty, it also plays a central role in maintaining healthy sexual function, energy, mood, and body composition in adult males.

With men, the body’s slow, steady decline of testosterone often starts as early as the 30s. Other factors can cause a rapid lowering of testosterone level, including genetic conditions, diet, testicular damage or infection, diabetes and exposure to toxins, radiation or chemotherapy.

“Low T” can have a devastating effect upon one’s quality of life. Men with low testosterone may notice a loss in muscle mass, decreased strength, and more fat around their abdomen, often leading to “mid-life-crisis”. Longstanding low testosterone can cause a decrease in bone mineral density, increasing the risk for osteoporosis (loss of bone mass).

The treatment is relatively simple: add back some testosterone. Most patients report “feeling like their old selves again” and a return of that “get up and go” feeling.

How is Diabetes Improved With Hormone Balancing?

Whether you suffer from Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, optimizing hormones can play an important role in ensuring long-term health.

  • Optimized hormones contribute to the stabilization of blood glucose (blood sugar) levels, an essential component of health.
  • Optimized hormones help eliminate food cravings, a key cause of weight often prevalent with diabetes Type 2.
  • Men with diabetes often suffer from erectile dysfunction and low levels of testosterone.
  • Patients with Type 1 diabetes often have underlying endocrine disorders that relate to the autoimmunity of Type 1 diabetes.
  • A1C levels improve with hormone treatment.
  • Studies demonstrated that hormone stabilization can benefit medical protocols used to manage, improve and prevent serious complications arising from diabetes.
  • Hormone optimization has been shown to improve energy, glucose stabilization, weight loss, cholesterol levels and mood benefits that dramatically impact well-being while living with diabetes.

How Does Hormone Optimization Help Relieve Symptoms of Menopause?

Mainstream medicine has been given a wake-up call on a matter critical to the health of 65 million women in the U.S. Options for treatment of menopause symptoms have significantly expanded as a result of bio-identical hormones.

Particularly in mid-life, as early as age 30, hormone levels begin to decline at varying rates. Fewer hormones cause significant health problems for women.

  • Some hormones drop steadily over the years (testosterone), while others can fall dramatically in a short period (estrogen and progesterone).
  • Rates of decline vary from person to person based on genetics and a variety of physical factors.

How Do You Know If You Have a Hormone Imbalance?

The only true way of knowing what hormone deficiencies may be occurring is to directly measure the hormones through blood testing. But tell-tale signs of hormone imbalance, especially around menopause may include any “yes” answers to the following questions:

  • Do you feel depressed?
  • Are you gaining weight for no apparent reason?
  • Do you suffer from a lack of energy?
  • Are you unmotivated to undertake tasks you used to enjoy?
  • Is your libido lagging?
  • Have you become forgetful or noticed a decline in your short-term memory?
  • Do you have unexplained mood swings?

If you experience any of these symptoms, hormone optimization may bring you swift and dramatic improvement.

Four days a week with a trainer, changed diet and multi-vitamins weren’t enough to change my weight, energy levels and overall cadence.  At 38, I was beginning to wonder if I’d be stuck at 225lbs., 22% body fat and constantly dragging whether in the office or at home with the kids.

Through a friend, I was recommended to Dr. Allen and their hormone replacement therapy.  I went in VERY skeptical, but was quickly put at ease by the caring staff, knowledgable assessment and very informative session I received from Dr. Allen.

Rather than describe all of the particulars, I’ll just give you the numbers.  In less than 90-days, my body weight is down 21-pounds and I’m currently at 13.8% body fat.  My energy levels are off the charts!  With 4-kids under 12-years of age, I feel young and keeping up with them is no longer a chore.I’m a firm believer in this therapy and stronger advocate of the one-of-a-kind treatment I’ve received from Dr. Allen and staff.

As I was approaching my 40s and living a busy lifestyle with work and kids’ schedules, I found myself dragging and unable keep up with my everyday life.  My mind was foggy and I seemed to have lost my zest for life.  I came to see Dr. Allen to see if there was something I could do to regain the energy I had in my 20s. I also felt that my muscle mass was decreasing and my workouts were becoming more and more difficult and painful.

I decided to go ahead with the program that they offer and have been so pleased that I did.  After starting the Hormones and supplements, it took only a few months before I was feeling like a new woman.  My energy improved, I was able to keep up with my kids, my moods were balanced and I was pleasant to be around again.  My workouts were amazing, my muscles were working again!

I am so grateful for the Hormones, supplements, and nutrition and exercise counseling that I have received at Deseret Aesthetic & Lifestyle Institute.  Dr. Allen and his incredibly helpful and friendly staff have given me my life again and I have recommitted to a healthy lifestyle. I am looking forward to many more years of youthful energy and a better quality of life!

 -40 and feeling fabulous

TestimonialsHealth and fitness has always been important to me and I have always tried to stay active by biking, running and regular exercise. I noticed with age and stress my body just didn’t feel as healthy as it used to so I saw Dr Allen for an overall wellness consult. What I learned from this visit opened my eyes to what it means to be healthy. He gave me a diet plan that imeediately gave me more energy and helped me to understand what I was putting into my body and how it would effect my health. He also checked my blood work to determine areas where I was deficient and got me on some supplements.

The result 6 months later is amazing. I have more clarity of mind, sleep better, feel less daily stress and am in the best shape I have ever been in. I recommend Dr. Allen for anyone wanting to get their body in ideal shape and feel great.

Since I’ve started the hormone optimization , I’ve experiences some AWESOME changes, and I’m just a month into it…first off, I have lots more strength and stamina during my workouts (running 5 miles , and weights)….used to be where I would just BARELY make it over 2 miles, NOW, my strength kicks in AT 2 miles and is neverending! I finish my 5 mile run stronger than I started!

Another major difference is my daily energy level. I work 40 hours a week, so I used to come home and want to do N-O-T-H-I-N-G but sit on the couch , eat something and watch tv, and be simply exhausted until bedtime! Now, at the end of my work day, I have much much more alertness, excitement and energy , I go home and can easily do my household stuff, even throw an extra workout in, and still do more after that.

One of the first things I noticed after I started the plan was that I no longer felt as if I was in “pieces” during the day… as the day wore on, I’d start forgetting stuff, I’d lose energy, it felt as though I would piece by piece “fall apart” as the day went on, and now, I would describe how I feel each and every day as being “centered” . I know usually that is a spiritual word used a lot these days…but that’s how it best describes how I feel now… I feel like a complete unit, strong and alert, no longer losing myself piece by piece as the day goes on!!
